What You Thought, You Remember Is Wrong | What Is Mandela Effect?

The Mandela effect is one of the most mysterious effects known yet, the reason behind it is still not known and also, and science can't tell the answer to this. But wait, what is this Mandela Effect? Before answering this question, I want you to just see these real examples of the Mandela Effect. Here are some examples:

Examples of the Mandela Effect

Pikachu

What do you think, what's the correct image of Pikachu? If you chose the right-sided one, then you are wrong. From the beginning of Pokemon, the cartoon didn't have a black strip on Pikachu's tail.

Curious George

Curious George is an American cartoon. Many people say that the main character of the cartoon i.e., George had a tail but it didn't have any time in the series.

Loony Toons

This is a famous cartoon. Most people say that the cartoon was named "Loony Toons" but in reality, it's "Loony Tunes".

Kit Kat

You might have eaten Kit Kat, but was there a hyphen in Kit Kat? Well, the whole world thinks that there was hype and it didn't from the beginning.

Coca Cola

Now, you must have drank Coca-Cola. So, you tell me which one is the correct hyphen for Coca-Cola, is it the first one with a small hyphen in the up or the second with a straight hyphen in the middle of the third with a curved hyphen? If you think that the second or the third is correct, then you are wrong. But you are not only the one, many people think the same. While the first one is correct.

Rich Uncle Pennybags

Monopoly is one of the best board games. There's a character named Rich Uncle Pennybags in the logo of this brand. Thousands of people think that the character with a monocle is in the logo while the character doesn't wear a monocle.

Target

Do you think that the correct sign of the target is the third or second one? If yes, then you are wrong. I know that 70% of the people reading this post will say the third but in reality, the correct one is first which has only two red circles and one white.

Jiffy

Jif is a famous American peanut butter brand. People say that, unlike Jif, there was a peanut butter brand named 'Jiffy' many years ago, but the record says that there was no such thing.

Luke, I am your Father

Every film has its famous dialogue. One of the movies named Star Wars has a dialogue that many people had memorized. In that scene, the hero named Luke gets to know that the villain was his father. Then the villain says "No, I am your father."  People had misremembered it as "Like, I am your father". If you go and search for this misremembered dialogue on YouTube, you will get suggestions for this, which shows that most people search for this dialogue like that.

Nelson Mandela's Death

Nelson Mandela was the president of South Africa who was a prisoner for 18 years due to the struggle for freedom. If you search on Google when Nelson Mandela died, you will get the date 5 December 2013. Now, you might be thinking that what is strange about this? The strange thing is that millions of people think that he died in 1991 when he was a prisoner. Some people say that they had seen the live funeral of Nelson Mandela on TV, and some say that they had seen listened to his widowed wife of speech in 1991. In 1991, a book was published in which it was written that Nelson Mandela died on the 23rd of July 1991.

What is Mandela Effect?

So, these were some examples of the Mandela Effect. I think that you have understood where the term Mandela Effect was derived. Well, this effect was first observed in the death of Nelson Mandela. And I also believe that you have somewhat understood what Mandela Effect is. A situation or event that you had seen but when you tell about it, it’s unknown to others. This situation is known as Mandela Effect. For example, if you wake up from sleep and open your phone, you see that there is no Google but when you ask others about it, they say that there was nothing called Google. Well, in simple words, Mandela Effect is a situation where facts and events have been collectively misremembered by thousands of people.

Theories on Mandela Effect

This is a very strange effect that is not yet understood by science. Well, there are many reasons and theories given by scientists. Here are some of them:

Time Travel

Well, you had hear about this. You might be talking about this with your friends. According to this theory, someone is traveling in the past and changing it. Well, this theory doesn't sound too pretty as to why someone will change these small things like cartoons, logos, etc., he should have changed World War I or II.

Parallel Universe

According to this theory, there are other universes where Pikachu has a black stripe on its tail, Rich Uncle Pennybags has a monocle, the Coca-Cola logo has a curved hyphen, etc., till possible. This theory says that one day you were in the universe where Pikachu had a black stripe on its tail and now you are in the universe where Pikachu doesn't have a black stripe. This theory also says that due to a glitch, the memory of one universe is leaking to the other.

Formation of False Memory

To know about this theory we need to know how to brain stores memories. If you think that our brain stores memory in the form of images then you are wrong. Our brain stores memories in the form of puzzles.

For example, in our childhood, once a day you and your friends were cycling. You remembered your friends and remembered other friends' cloth colors except one, like the image shown above. So, in this case, what your brain will do is it will replace the cloth color with another color. Say that, you believe that the favorite color of girls is pink so, your mind will replace the cloth's color with pink.

So from this, we conclude that the work of our brain is to make new ideas not to memorize them for a long-term period. As Pikachu has black stripes on its ears so, our mind also thinks that it also has a black stripe in its tail. Monkeys have a tail so our mind relates that George also had its tail.

Suggestions and Fake Products or News

Suggestions are very powerful. If you hear something from someone and without researching it you believe in it then it's too much impactful. Well, fake products or news are also very powerful. By seeing fake items we don't remember the real products instead we believe it as real so, it's a possible reason for Mandela Effect. Similarly, fake news is also too powerful. You might not be knowing the impact of words on your mind but in reality, words impact too much in our mind. By hearing fake news we think it is. For example, maybe there was a fake peanut butter brand of Jif named Jiffy that had been used by the people and they say that Jiffy was also present. true but it isn't. Maybe the usage of fake Coca-Cola has affected its hyphen. So, we can also take suggestions and fake products or news as a good reason behind Mandela Effect.

Processing of your Mind

Each person's brain is different and its processing is also different so, the Mandela effect can be due to our processing of the mind. Well, to understand this let's see an example. So, take 30 people and stand them in a line. Now ask the first person in the line to say or act something to the other person. Now, this person will transmit this message to the third person, the third will transmit to the fourth, and like this, to the 30th person. If you ask the last person about the message you will see that the message had changed completely. You might have played this game with your friends. Well, from this game we can conclude that the transmission of messages from one person to many others will result in different messages. The reason behind this is that processing of the minds of different people is different. Someone was unable to listen or understand something so, to fill this gap, his mind created a piece of new information and then he gave that message to another person, that person thought the message was something and then he transmitted it. And like this, the information spreads from 1 to it becomes 11. So, the processing of the mind is also a powerful explanation for the Mandela Effect.

In 1991 there was news that Nelson Mandela was ill in jail, maybe people thought that Nelson Mandela will die during that period. The man thinking this message might have passed it to another person seeing a movie in which a man dies and his mind relates the scene with the information and makes the image of Nelson Mandela dying. And then he transmits this message to other people.

So, this was all about the Mandela Effect. The theories like time travel and the parallel universe might not be looking too much pretty but there's nothing impossible in this universe so, they might also be true. But rather than this, which theory do you believe in more?

Thank you for reading and keep learning.
